The process of edge banding involves applying glue to an edge tape material, pressing the edge tape to the workpiece edge for bonding, trimming of the excess tapes on all sides and polishing the edges to add a shine to the surface. Additional features such as pre-milling, scrapping, grooving, etc can also be added to the process to further enhance the eventual output.

Available edge banding machines differ from each other primarily in the areas of application and capabilities. Basic models are intended for small manufacturing facilities, where automation is not a necessity.
